USD Symphony Orchestra Nominated for Latin Grammy Award
The USD Symphony Orchestra recorded music for Mora’s new classical album, “El Ruido del Agua.” Luis Víquez, DMA, the director of orchestral activities at USD, will represent the collaboration at the 23rd Latin Grammy Awards, which will be held in Las Vegas on Nov. 17.
“This nomination is a reflection of the outstanding artistic activities that all the students and music faculty do at USD,” Víquez said.
“It has been an honor to collaborate with the USD Symphony Orchestra and Dr. Víquez for my album, and this is a great achievement for us all,” said Mora.
This is the first Grammy nomination for any music group at USD, setting the university apart from other collegiate music programs in state, nation and beyond.
“This nomination for such an important international award positions USD and its orchestral program at the level of some of the most prominent performing arts ensembles in the country,” Víquez said.
The Latin Grammy Awards are set to air Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. The program will be broadcast exclusively on Univision.
“Being nominated for a Latin Grammy Award is one of the highest honors that an orchestra can bestow worldwide,” Víquez said.
