The show is the story of Jack and Algernon, two young gentlemen who maintain fictitious personae to escape burdensome social obligations. Complications and comedy both arise when they must reconcile their alter egos with their intended spouses, Gwendolen and Cecily. Subtitled “A Trivial Comedy for Serious People,” this satiric comedy of manners is Wilde’s most popular play.

"'The Importance of Being Earnest’ is a fantastic gateway into other classical works,” said Roland Meisler, a second-year musical theatre student. “Expect a hilarious show full of sly winks at the audience, farcical comedy, and multiple love stories. The show also has fantastic set, lighting, and sound designs, as well as amazing costumes.”

Jey Young, junior musical theatre student, plays the role of Gwendolen and looks forward to the show. “This is a heartwarming farce that examines the frivolity of the English upper class and finds comedy in the flawed nature of self-important people. We are so excited to invite you into this silly world we have created. The rehearsal process has been a delight to play in and the show promises to be replete with slapstick and wit to engage audiences of all ages.”
