Knudson School of Law Dean Neil Fulton, J.D., Knudson School of Law Director of Experiential Learning and Lecturer Tamara Nash, J.D., and Department of Computer Science Chair KC Santosh, Ph.D., are featured speakers in the session “Generative AI: The Future is Here. Ethically Navigating This Brave New World.”

Generative AI refers to the ability of machines to mimic functions normally associated with humans. The technology can be used to write compelling content, answer questions and fulfill commands instantly. Advances like ChatGPT, Harvey AI and the technology’s recent passage of the bar exam have raised concerns about its potential impact on the legal profession.

Speakers will demonstrate how AI is used, discuss how attorneys can use AI consistent with the profession’s ethical obligations, and explain how to implement AI in practice and advise clients on the possible legal pitfalls of using AI.

Other session speakers include Joel Engel, J.D., Woods, Fuller, Schultz & Smith attorney; Mark Bassingthwaighte, Esq., ALPS risk manager; Nicole Tupman, J.D., Raven Industries, senior legal counsel; and Blake Klinker, J.D., University of North Dakota School of Law associate professor.
