The ALI is an organization of judges, lawyers and legal scholars who work to provide clarifying information for state laws, secure the justice process and promote legal scholarship.
The institute publishes analyses of laws and legal processes that are in turn relied on by the courts. Simmons joins only 3,000 people elected to serve on the American Law Institute since its founding in 1923.
“I am deeply honored to have been elected to the prestigious American Law Institute," said Simmons. “ALI is currently engaged in drafting new restatements of property law and conflicts of law, and I am excited to participate and contribute to its work. I hope I can make a positive impact on legal reform and contribute to the good of South Dakota.”
Simmons joins eight other elected members from South Dakota including USD Knudson School of Law Dean Neil Fulton, J.D., and South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice Steven Jensen, J.D. ’88.
