The Class of 2028 began classes in August. Out of the 88 new students:

  • 86% are first-generation law students.
  • 45% are non-traditional students, many of them having held careers outside the legal profession.
  • 58% are South Dakota residents.
  • 42% are from other states, representing 19 different states, as well as Canada.

The 50th percentile LSAT score for the incoming class is 152. Their average undergraduate GPA is 3.46.

In sharing their motivation for attending law school at USD, a common theme among students was the desire to serve the state and their communities.

“I chose the law school because I want to stay in South Dakota afterwards,” said Megan King, a prospective 2028 graduate. “I want to build a locally grounded legal fluency.”
