Her own research specialization is on systemic responses to sexualized violence. Currently, Diamond-Welch is working on research related to access to healing and justice for victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. She is also the evaluator on Avera Health’s telehealth sexual assault nurse examiner program and is the researcher on South Dakota’s sexual assault kit initiative program.

“Bridget’s expertise will lead the School of Health Sciences in furthering the school’s research mission,” said Haifa Abou-Samra, Ph.D., dean of the School of Health Sciences. “Her proven track record of securing extramural funding and strong record of peer reviewed publications will foster collaborative, interdisciplinary research partnerships both externally and internally.”

Diamond-Welch was most recently associate director of the Center for Rural Health Improvement in the Sanford School of Medicine. Prior to that, she was an associate professor of criminal justice at USD. She holds a Ph.D. from Iowa State University in sociology and a Master of Arts degree in sociology from the University of Iowa. She has been with USD since 2015.

“I look forward to working with faculty, staff and students to support their research agendas and help them pursue the projects they are passionate about,” she said.
