Transfer Admission Requirements

Transfer students applying to the University of South Dakota should meet the following minimum requirements. Some specific programs and majors may have additional admission requirements.

  • Complete 24 or more semester credits
    Transfer students under the age of 24 who have earned fewer than 24 semester credits must also meet the freshman admission requirements
  • 2.0 or higher cumulative grade point average
    Students with less than a 2.0 GPA are subject to review and may be admitted on probation
  • Remain in good standing with your most recently attended school

Application Procedure

To complete your transfer application, submit the following materials to the Office of Admissions:

US $20 Application Fee
  • Application Fees are non-refundable
  • Fee must be paid before your application will be processed and must accompany your application to avoid delay in processing
  • Exceptions are made for students who are non-degree seeking, or have previously applied, paid the fee, and attended a university in the Board of Regents system within the previous three semesters.
College Transcripts
  • Official transcripts from each college or university you previously attended sent directly to USD.
High School Transcripts
  • Official high school transcript sent directly to USD.
  • To be eligible to receive Title IV federal financial aid, the regulations require that institutions admit, as regularly enrolled students, persons who have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED).
Test Scores
  • Official ACT or SAT scores are required for transfer students under the age of 21
