The Department of English offers opportunities for graduate students to participate in the operation of two periodicals and a literary press.
- South Dakota Review, a quarterly journal, publishes both creative and critical work for a national audience. Graduate students may be selected to serve as assistant editors, and with experience and training, may become circulations manager.
- The Vermillion Literary Project produces an annual anthology of local fiction, poetry and artwork entitled the Red Coyote. All students and community members may submit their work for possible publication in and/or participate in curating, editing, designing and promoting of the anthology.
- Astrophil Press produces award-winning books of literary fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Graduate students may serve in a variety of capacities best suited to their skill sets.
