We are proud to offer several scholarships for students who qualify.
This award is for an incoming freshman journalism student who graduated in the top 20 percent of their high school in South Dakota. Preference will be given to a female student who has demonstrated discernible talent in and interest for print journalism through such experience as the editorship or other positions of responsibility on a high school or hometown newspaper, and who expresses the desire to become actively involved in writing for the Volante.
This scholarship is for students who have a declared major in mass communications. Preference is given to students who:
Financial need is taken into account, but is not the sole determining factor.
Mass communications majors at USD who have completed their second year and have expressed an interest in a career in the field of broadcasting are eligible for this scholarship.
Juniors or seniors majoring in journalism or mass communications at USD are eligible for this scholarship. Recipients must have graduated from a South Dakota high school, with preference given to students from the Black Hills. Academic achievement and financial need are considered when awarding the scholarship.
This scholarship is for students studying journalism or journalistic arts.
This scholarship is for exceptional undergraduate students who are preparing for media-related careers and support USD's efforts to advance excellence in learning at the Al Neuharth Media Center, through vibrant, independent student media and through an exceptional faculty and curriculum in the Department of Contemporary Media and Journalism.
This scholarship is available to high school seniors who will work on the student newspaper, The Volante, and are talented in print journalism. This scholarship pays up to $5,000 per year and is possibly renewable for four years and finalists will be asked to interview on campus.
This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student studying journalism or advertising at USD.
