Dear Campus Community,

The University of South Dakota remains committed to protecting our community and prioritizing health and safety on campus amid the COVID-19 pandemic. For these reasons, we have made the difficult decision to suspend USD-affiliated international travel for students through spring 2021. Spring 2021 study abroad experiences have been canceled, and AWOL Alternative Break experiences have been postponed until summer. We will continue to support National Student Exchange (NSE) opportunities this spring for domestic exchanges, though NSE study away experiences in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and Canada will be canceled.

We understand that this may be disappointing news. We hope students who intended to study abroad will explore other options for serving their communities and participating in hands-on learning experiences this year. Local service projects will continue to be offered this fall and spring with appropriate distancing and safety measures in place, and we will host a variety of virtual and physically distanced events to provide our community with memorable and enriching experiences.

If you have questions about virtual study abroad opportunities for spring 2021, local service projects or research and creative scholarship opportunities, please contact the Gallagher Center for Experiential Learning & Education Abroad at
