COVID-19: USD will require face coverings this spring Campus Updates and Information
Safe Zone Training
The University of South Dakota strives to create an academic climate that is respectful, inclusive and continuously evolving. This includes our LGBTQ+ students, staff and faculty. We want to create a climate that is inclusive, safe and welcoming to members of the LGBTQ+ community.
As part of our practice of “Inclusive Excellence”–USD's diversity strategic initiative–we've created an online Safe Zone training program. The purpose of this training is to facilitate a collaborative effort among our students, faculty, staff and community members to create safer spaces for members of the LGBTQ+ communities. Throughout this training, we hope to establish a network within our community that can provide support, information and a safe place for individuals who identify as LGBTQ+.
We designed this online training to facilitate greater awareness and understanding of topics like gender, gender expression, romantic attraction and sexuality. The modules address a range of topics. This training provides an introduction to experiences that affect the LGBTQ+ communities at USD and in Vermillion.
This Safe Zone Training Program consists of six modules which appear on the left-hand side of the page under the “Modules” tab. Before beginning the modules, we recommend you open the “Quick Questions and Final Quiz” link in a separate tab. After you have reviewed each module, complete the Quick Check Questions associated with that module. Once you complete the final module, you will also answer a number of final questions within the quiz. You must receive 90% correct in order to pass this training. You will receive a certificate upon successful completion.
