Students completing the elementary education program have particular strengths in diversity, technology and intervention for K-8 children. The four-year program includes a full year of teaching experience in a K-8 public school. Students can combine elementary education with special education as a double major or customize the program with with an endorsement in kindergarten or early childhood education.
Students majoring in special education do so as a double major with either elementary or secondary education, receiving a basic elementary or secondary certificate with a second major for K-12 special education. It's a four-year program, which includes two semesters of student teaching, one in each of the major areas.
Education majors interested in teaching are admitted to teacher education programs when they have achieved sophomore standing (completion of 30 hours).
