USD Study Abroad

Insuring the health and safety of our students is our highest concern. Before a student leaves campus, we conduct extensive pre-departure workshops to discuss international insurance, medical needs, cultural adaptation and academic support and services, among other topics.

All students receive a comprehensive handbook to global learning during the workshops. Students are responsible for reviewing the information provided, asking questions and insuring they feel fully prepared before they depart.

Be advised that university policy does not allow travel to countries currently under a travel warning issued by the U.S. Department of State.

International Insurance

Every USD student on a university-affiliated, international program is required to purchase coverage and will automatically be enrolled into the Board of Regents' CISI study abroad insurance.

U.S.-based health insurers may provide for international coverage, however it often times does not extend beyond basic medical needs. Even though students will be required to purchase the BOR's CISI international insurance plan, they are strongly advised NOT to cancel their insurance in the U.S. while they are away.

Meeting with a Health Professional

Students going on a USD study abroad program are required to meet with a health professional to discuss any medical needs or concerns prior to departure.
