Come join us for a three-session virtual training opportunity to learn more about the neuroscience behind healthy brain development in early childhood! We will delve into understanding how early trauma and adverse experiences affect student behaviors and engagement. We will also discuss and share strategies for how to prime our students brains for learning and well-being! Adversity and trauma affect brain architecture and the behaviors we often observe can look defiant, oppositional and aloof. We know that all behavior is communication and educators will leave with a plethora of brain-aligned strategies that calm the stress response and engage our youngest learners. Dates: May 7, 14, 21

Professional Development: Concentration in Deaf-Blindness (Course 4: Deaf-Blindness: Life Planning for Success)
The course provides an overview of curricular options and instructional strategies to promote student success in school and beyond, and to ensure that all students successfully transition from school to adulthood. The course includes content from the following Open Hands, Open Access modules: Transition to Adulthood and Community Living, Self-Determination, Social Skills and Peer Relationships, Sexuality, and Collaborative Teaming and Family Partnerships. The course focuses on fully integrating the module content above to prepare students who are deafblind to be actively engaged in communities of their choice. This course will be a combination of weekly online work and 7 synchronous meetings. All meetings will be on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 PM CST on the following dates: May 11, May 25, June 8, June 22, July 6, July 20 and August 10

Professional Development: Concentration in Deaf-Blindness Course 2: Communication Strategies
The key principle of this course is that all students communicate. This course includes content from the following Open Hands, Open Access modules: Touch for Connection and Communication, Understanding Communication Principles, Emergent Communication, Progressing from Non-symbolic to Symbolic Communication & Complex Language, Introduction to Sign Language & Braille, Concept Development and Responsive Environments and Calendars. This course will be a combination of weekly online learning and 4 synchronous meetings. Meetings will be on Wednesdays from 6:00-8:00 PM CST on the following dates: May 12, June 9, July 7 and August 11.

The PEERS for Adolescents Certified School-Based Training Seminar is designed for educators and school-based professionals, mental health practitioners, medical professionals, speech and language pathologists, occupational, recreational, and behavioral therapists, researchers, and other professionals who work with youth with social challenges. After completing this training, attendees will be listed as a PEERS School Based Certified Provider This virtual training will be presented via Zoom and participants will be expected to be logged in for the entirety of the training with their camera on. Dates: May 19-21 Times: 10:00am - 6:00pm CST Cost: $200 for South Dakota Residents, $250 for Non-South Dakota Residents Registration fee includes a hard copy of the training manual which will be sent to the participants, prior to the beginning of the training. **Registration closes on May 5th**

Functional Sign Language Course 1
This 10-week, online course is designed to provide introductory sign language vocabulary skills for families, professionals and other community members. Participants will explore a variety of vocabulary that will promote clearer communication within the home, classroom, work or community environment. Class Format: -Class is presented through Zoom meetings. -Two sessions designed for you to bring your own list of vocabulary. -Independent practice opportunities provided. Class will be held on Mon. and Thur. evenings beginning on June 14th - July 22nd. All class sessions are held from 6:30-8:00 PM CST. 1 USD graduate credit is available for an additional cost of $40 (pending university approval). A separate link will be sent to participants 2 weeks prior to the start date of the course.
