VERMILLION, S.D. -- Lois Gregoire enjoys working with numbers whether it’s answering payroll questions or just helping someone with a budget issue. And when it comes to working with Gregoire, the numbers don’t lie: people enjoy working with her – one of the primary reasons Gregoire was named July 2009 Career Services Employee of the Month at The University of South Dakota.
"I really appreciate this," Gregoire told co-workers as she fought back tears during a reception in her honor at Slagle Hall 209. "You all mean the world to me and I just love working with all of you."
Part of Gregoire's love of working at USD, where she has been a budget analyst since 1999, is being a part of a progressive campus. Prior to working for the Office of Budget and Finance, Gregoire was a research secretary at the School of Law for a decade. She’s witnessed many changes around campus over the past two decades and really likes what she sees.
"It does not seem like it's been 20 years," said Gregoire, who lives in rural Wakonda, S.D., with her husband, Hubert, a farmer. Together they have three children, two daughters and a son. "The campus has changed tremendously with new buildings, the intricate landscaping. It's just beautiful."
Nominated by Sheila Gestring, director of budget and finance at The U, Gregoire was praised for her hard work and for going “beyond what is asked of her to be sure that the job is done right and on time.”
"Lois is a resource to many on campus," Gestring stated in her nomination of Gregoire. "In addition to her competencies, Lois brings an even approach, maintains focus on the tasks at hand, and brings a positive energy to the office."
