'Paintography' exhibition to be on display at USDs Day Gallery

VERMILLION, S.D. -- “Paintography,” a student art exhibition featuring five B.F.A. students at The University of South Dakota, will be on display in the John A. Day Gallery of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts, April 19-23.

A description of the student art includes Matt Stone of Madison, S.D., who uses bold colors, quirky objects and raw energy to express the world around him on canvas and paper is featured in the exhibition and Aimee Kontz of Chamberlain, S.D., who uses paint on a canvas to explore the inner and outer territories of self. Andrea Logan of Vermillion uses a combination of theater and photography to create images based on her favorite childhood story, and Stephanie Jones of Elk Point, S.D., explores the depths of social and emotional tendencies that individuals deal with on a daily basis through painting. Lindsey McCann, a native of Sioux Falls, S.D., uses photography to explore environments and how they reflect the people who inhabited them.

A reception for these five student artists is scheduled for Friday, April 23 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Day Gallery, which is open at no cost to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 1 to 5 p.m. on weekends.
