USD Holds 40th Winter Commencement

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota granted degrees to more than 550 graduates Saturday, most of whom participated in the 40th annual Winter Commencement in the DakotaDome.

Jeffrey Holcomb, president and CEO of Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls and a 1982 USD graduate, gave the keynote address. He grew up in Long Valley, South Dakota, on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and received a bachelor's degree in German and political science and a master’s in public administration from USD.

Founded in 1862 and the first university in the Dakotas, the University of South Dakota is the only public liberal arts university in the state, with 202 undergraduate and 84 graduate programs in the College of Arts & Sciences, School of Education, Knudson School of Law, Sanford School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, Beacom School of Business and College of Fine Arts.
