USD Hosts 16th annual Lawrence Brothers Science Camp

Lawrence Brothers Camp Light and Vision Each year, students study a theme that includes aspects of science, chemistry, mathematics and the health sciences. This year’s theme is light and vision.

VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of South Dakota will host the 16th annual Lawrence Brothers Science camp July 9-14.

The week-long camp, open to students entering grades seven through nine, focuses on a broad theme each year that includes aspects of science, chemistry, mathematics and the health sciences. This year’s theme is light and vision.

The goal of the camp is to inspire students into the sciences by providing hands-on opportunities to conduct experiments. The camp will also include recreational activities like swimming, trips to USD’s wellness center, and attending movies.

The Lawrence Brothers Science Camp was founded in 2002 through a generous donation from the John and Amy Bowles Lawrence Foundation and support from the University of South Dakota Foundation to honor the legacy of scientists and USD alumni E. O. and John Lawrence. From 2006 through 2011, the camp received grant support from Battelle. Currently, the camp is supported by fees and the South Dakota Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network (SD BRIN).
