VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of South Dakota’s addiction counseling and prevention online bachelor’s program ranked sixth in a review of national online addiction recovery programs by TheBestSchools.org.
The addiction counseling and prevention department (formerly addiction studies) focuses on science-based addiction education with real-world experience. The 120-credit online bachelor’s degree makes students eligible for addiction/prevention credentialing through the South Dakota Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals.
According to the ranking, the need for substance abuse counselors will likely grow 20 percent by 2026. With a degree in addiction counseling and prevention, students have a variety of career options including, addiction counseling in inpatient and outpatient care facilities, parole officer, shelter director and more.
