USD Wellness Center Ranked Highly for Best Campus Recreation Center

Wellness Center USD's Wellness Center offers state of the art equipment, opportunities for group fitness, intramural sports and the highest climbing wall in South Dakota.

VERMILLION, S.D. -- The University of South Dakota’s Wellness Center placed 44th in a College Consensus ranking for the best campus recreation centers in the nation.

The Wellness Center ranked highly for its 61,000 square feet of campus recreation. According to the consensus, the Wellness Center’s best features are its pool and the climbing wall. The climbing wall, which is the highest in South Dakota at 38 feet, has 4,300 hold combinations as well as 9 rope stations.

The universities and colleges had to qualify for a College Consensus score, which is a combination of the results of student reviews around the web and reputable publisher ratings. The complete list is available online.


Founded in 1862 and the first university in the Dakotas, the University of South Dakota is the only public liberal arts university in the state, with 202 undergraduate and 84 graduate programs in the College of Arts & Sciences, School of Education, Knudson School of Law, Sanford School of Medicine, School of Health Sciences, Beacom School of Business and College of Fine Arts. With an enrollment of nearly 10,000 students and more than 400 faculty, USD has a 16:1 student/faculty ratio, and it ranks among the best in academics and affordability. USD’s 18 athletic programs compete at the NCAA Division I level.
