VERMILLION, S.D. – The Beacom School of Business announces Sheelah Kolhatkar, author of New York Time’s best-selling book, "Black Edge: Inside Information, Dirty Money, and the Quest To Bring Down the Most Wanted Man On Wall Street," as the featured guest speaker for the Arthur A. Volk Symposium Monday, April 8 at 6 p.m. in the Muenster University Center Ballroom at the University of South Dakota.

Kolhatkar, a former hedge fund analyst, is a staff writer and financial columnist at The New Yorker where she writes about Wall Street, Silicon Valley, technology, economics and national politics. She has appeared as a commentator on business and economic issues on CNBC, MSNBC, PBS, CBS, NPR and contributes regularly to NPR’s Marketplace and WNYC’s Money Talking.

The public is invited to “Breaking the Cycle of Scandal: The Essential Tie between Ethics & Leadership,” an informative discussion with Kolhatkar on the importance of ethics in business. Drawing on her work hosting a public television series on business ethics, and her investigative journalism covering some of the most complex and fascinating business corruption cases of the day, Kolhatkar looks at how we got to this point and how business leaders can help create a tone at the top that brings out the most ethical, and effective, business decisions.

Arthur A. Volk was a Beacom School of Business faculty member who served a 36-year tenure at USD as an accounting professor and director of the Business Placement Bureau. Through the generosity of many donors, the Arthur A. Volk Symposium endowment was established with the USD Foundation to perpetuate the memory of Volk’s outstanding service to the students of this university. The symposium is hosted by the USD Beacom School of Business to bring together students, academicians and business leaders for discussion of current topics of interest.

Media is encouraged to RSVP and request interviews with Hailie Warren at Hailie.Warren@usd.edu.
