VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of South Dakota’s Department of Theatre is pleased to offer the family-friendly musical "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." This stage adaptation is based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel and the beloved Disney film.

Menken, Schwartz and Parnell’s sweeping adaptation of Hugo’s classic tale follows the lives of four iconic characters: the bell-ringer Quasimodo, the beautiful Esmeralda, the handsome Captain Phoebus and the wicked Archdeacon Frollo. Audiences will be whisked away to another world with classic tunes from the Disney film including “Out There,” “Someday” and the timeless “God Help the Outcasts,” in addition to the many brand new songs written specifically for the stage musical. From comedy to high drama, romance to adventure, there is something in this production for fans of the novel and for those who will experience this story for the first time.

“Hunchback explores the power of love and acceptance of people who are different from each other over hate and bigotry,” said Raimondo Genna, director of the musical and chair of the Department of Theatre.
