VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of South Dakota launched a new Graduate Transfer Scholar’s Program for eligible undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in transferring to USD to complete their program of study.
Starting in the fall of 2020, qualified students can now transfer to the state’s flagship university with financial support if they were offered a scholarship to attend USD in the past. This allows students to take advantage of their original scholarship agreement and choose from the 200 undergraduate programs and 78 graduate programs USD offers.
“We live in an ever-changing world, and USD wants to support students who are reconsidering their future plans to join the leader in graduate school education in South Dakota,” said Scott Pohlson, vice president of USD Enrollment, Marketing and University Relations. “This program is designed to make graduate school more affordable and available for all students. Furthermore, it expands their career options, which during a time of uncertainty, is most important.”
As a four-year scholarship, the Graduate Transfer Scholar’s Program provides students with ongoing support throughout the remainder of their undergraduate careers and, if they choose, onto an advanced graduate degree program.
“USD’s Graduate School is the largest provider of graduate and professional education in the state. Our competitive programs have rigorous curriculum which meets the highest-quality educational standards in the disciplines and our faculty are engaged in our student’s success,” said Beth Freeburg, Ph.D., associate provost and graduate dean of USD Graduate School. “We are committed to helping students shape their professional career goals from the moment they begin their education at USD.”
The Graduate Transfer Scholar’s Program is available for eight consecutive semesters (undergraduate and graduate). Recipients must complete at least 24 credit hours per academic year, and in most circumstances, they must keep an undergraduate cumulative grade point average of at least 2.7 or graduate cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, based on a 4.0 scale, on all coursework.
