20th Oscar Howe Memorial Lecture is Sept 24 at The U
Morris received a Ph.D. from Columbia University and her master's degree from the University of New Mexico. From 2002-2004 she was a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University, where she studied Visual Culture and Gender Theory. She has published several articles on contemporary Native American landscape painting and on artistic incorporation of written text in post-modern painting and installation.
The Oscar Howe Memorial Lecture was established in 1989 by the Oscar Howe Memorial Association at USD. Its purpose is to perpetuate and honor Howe's message that American Indian art is a vital and contemporary cultural force in today's world. In this spirit, the Association has dedicated the annual lecture to issues relating to the American Indian Fine Arts Movement.
The annual lecture is also held in conjunction with the Northern Plains Indian Art Market at the Ramkota Inn Exhibit Hall in Sioux Falls, which is Sept. 25-27. The annual market is hosted by Sinte Gleska University of Mission, S.D. For more information see www.npiam.org.
