AAFP cites USD Medical School for family medicine
AAFP presented its Top Ten Awards during a recent conference, recognizing schools that graduated the highest percentage of students who chose family medicine over a three-year period. USD’s medical school was third with 16.9 percent while the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences was first with 20.4 percent.
“This award shows our commitment to all of South Dakota, especially rural areas,” said Rodney R. Parry, M.D., vice president of health affairs and dean of the Sanford School of Medicine. “It is a result of our emphasis family medicine throughout our medical school curriculum. Faculty in our family medicine department also deserve credit for serving as outstanding role models and for continually encouraging students to consider a career as a family physician.”
