An open forum for the public is at 3:45 p.m. on Monday, April 4 at the Al Neuharth Media Center. A separate forum for students will also be at 3:45 p.m. on April 4 at Beacom Hall 208; while forums for faculty (School of Law courtroom) and staff (Muenster University Center 216) are scheduled for the same date and time in conjunction with the HLC site visit.

The open forums are part of a comprehensive evaluation visit by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, April 4-6. The Higher Learning Commission is one of six accrediting agencies in the United States that provide institutional accreditation on a regional basis. Institutional accreditation evaluates an entire institution and accredits as a whole. The Commission, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, accredits close to 1,100 institutions of higher education in a 19-state region. USD has been accredited by the Commission since 1913 and was most recently awarded reaccreditation in 2001.

For the past two years, USD has been engaged in a process of self-study, addressing the Commission’s requirements and criteria for accreditation. The evaluation team is visiting campus to gather evidence that USD’s self-study is thorough and accurate. At the conclusion of its visit, the team will recommend to the Commission a continuing status for the college. Following a review process, the Commission itself will take the final action.
