Activities highlight International Education Week schedule at USD
Highlighting the week of activities is the annual Global Palate Dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 21, prior to the opening of USD’s production of “Les Misérables.” Besides offering students who attend the dinner an opportunity to obtain a free ticket to the opening night of “Les Mis,” attendees will also enjoy cuisines from the around the world and participate in a brief discussion about the conditions in France at the time the story of “Les Mis” takes place.
Additional International Education Week events include an International Forum at noon on Monday, Nov. 18, “Still Vulnerable to OPEC?” at Farber Hall in Old Main. Benno Wymar, Ph.D., professor emeritus of economics, Dennis A. Johnson, Ph.D., professor emeritus of economics, and Greg Huckabee, J.D., associate professor of business law, will discuss the current relationship between the United States and OPEC member nations. A cultural fair, showcasing USD’s international presence, is at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18 at the Pit Lounge in the Muenster University Center along with a screening of the film “Crossing Borders” at 7 p.m. in Farber Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 19. Another film, “No”, will also be screened in Farber Hall at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20 followed by a performance at noon on Friday, Nov. 22 from the Caribbean Coyotes steel drum band at the MUC Pit Lounge. All events are free and open to the public.
International Education Week is a joint initiative between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs which prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.
