Roberta Ambur has added vice president of Administration to her current duties as vice president of Information Technology Services while Sheila Gestring, assistant vice president for Finance and Administration, has been appointed vice president of Finance. This follows the departure of Richard Van Den Hul, who served in both capacities as vice president of Finance and Administration before accepting the position of vice president for business and financial affairs at Western Washington University. David Herbster has been named acting Athletics Director pending a national search for the position following the resignation of Joel Nielsen, who becomes the Athletics Director at Kent State University (Ohio) on May 1. Jeff Baylor has been named vice president for Marketing, Enrollment and Student Services after serving as acting vice president in the same capacity since August 2009.

Ambur joined The U in 2001 where she is responsible for Technology Services and Information Services.She also chairs the Information Technology Advisory Council and is a member of the Executive Team. Gestring came to USD in 2007 as director of Budget and Finance at USD. She previously worked at Flathead Community College (Mont.) for three years. Prior to that, Gestring held various financial management positions in state government for the South Dakota Board of Regents and the South Dakota Department of Transportation. Herbster’s previous title was assistant athletics director and director of development for the USD Foundation. He came to USD in 2007 after three years at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Baylor, who joined The U in 2008 as associate vice president of enrollment and student services, was assistant vice president of student services and assistant vice president for enrollment management at St. Leo University (Fla.) for three years. He also served as dean of admissions and dean of enrollment at Thiel College (Pa.) from 2000 to 2005. His previous position of associate vice president for enrollment and student services will not be filled at USD in the near future.
