Alpha Phi at USD to raise funds for Vermillion Backpack Program through annual Alpha Phi-esta
Proceeds from “Alpha Phi-esta” will be donated to the Vermillion Backpack Program, a nonprofit program designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available. “Alpha Phi-esta” includes a buffet of Mexican cuisine as well as live entertainment, piñatas and a jalapeño-eating contest.
The event is open to the public, including USD faculty members and students, and Vermillion residents. The fraternity or residence hall with largest turnout of participants will receive a platter of treats from the women of Alpha Phi. Ticket prices are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. A family package is also available for $15 (two adults and two children).
Alpha Phi International Fraternity was founded at Syracuse University in 1872 as one of the first Greek societies for women. Alpha Phi is dedicated to promoting sisterhood, cultivating leadership, encouraging intellectual curiosity and advocating service. The organization is comprised of more than 150 collegiate chapters and more than 130 alumnae chapters throughout the United States and Canada. The Alpha Phi Foundation is the fraternity’s philanthropic and educational partner. Through contributions from chapters, individual members and friends, the foundation supports women’s cardiac health and other charitable and educational projects.
