Alpha Xi Delta Breaks Ground on New Home at the University of South Dakota
“Rebuilding our house at 214 N. Plum has special meaning for all of our alumnae. This is the place where memories are made,” said Ashley Meiners, chapter president. The future chapter house will house 59 people, and will feature an expanded dining room with capacity for 120-150 people, larger sleeping rooms with individual study areas, and room for the chapter to continue growing.
"Coming Home: The Campaign for 214 North Plum Street" has raised $1,080,000 to date. The remaining funds for the building project will come through a loan with First Bank and Trust in Vermillion. The plan calls for construction work to continue over the next year with a new house ready for the chapter by the Fall of 2018. Mary Duncan, president for the Housing Corporation Board reflected that, “Dedicating a new home next Fall, will be the greatest 115 Year Anniversary Gift our alumnae could imagine presenting to chapter members.”
Epsilon Chapter was founded in 1903 at the University of South Dakota and is the fifth oldest chapter in the nation. Next year the chapter will be celebrating 115 years of inspiring women to realize their potential by providing opportunities for sisterhood, leadership, knowledge, and service.
Fundraising efforts for the Alpha Xi Delta project are being coordinated through Pennington & Company, a fundraising consultant based out of Lawrence, Kansas. Fiegen Construction based in Sioux Falls, has been hired as the design/build firm to lead the architectural design and manage the building project.
