“We are delighted to introduce new specializations in our MBA program to meet the growing demands of the marketplace in the areas of marketing and supply chain management,” said Venky Venkatachalam, dean of the Beacom School of Business.

The South Dakota Board of Regents recently approved both specializations that were selected based on the interests expressed by MBA students and to address workforce needs in South Dakota and the surrounding region.

The new curriculum, developed with input from the industry, aligns academic coursework with current demands in the field of business. “We are continuing our commitment towards curriculum innovation that is aligned with the marketplace and investing in new faculty resources in order to advance the Beacom School of Business,” said Venkatachalam.

Mandie Weinandt, MBA coordinator, said almost 300 students are enrolled in the MBA program at USD, online and on-campus. “The additional courses in consumer behavior, supply chain management, product development and quality management will help all students seeking a deeper understanding and will provide added value to their program,” she said.

The marketing specialization will include in-depth study of consumer behavior, new product development and branding. The operations and supply chain specialization will focus on supply chain management, lean management and quality control. Both specializations are designed to allow students to cultivate a more focused career path and gain expertise required for these rapidly evolving fields.

These specializations will be offered on campus and online. Additional course details and rotations will be determined and announced in the upcoming weeks.
