At the Nebraska Furniture Mart students learned about the store’s founding in 1937 and how it has grown into one of the most successful providers of furniture and household items. Students saw the technology that helps drives the success of the business, ranging from electronic price tags to smartphone apps that guide customers through the store.

Buffett conducted a two-hour question and answer session at the Kiewit Building in Omaha where members of Coyote Capital Management queried the billionaire about investment strategy. Coyote Capital Management has about $1.6 million under management. Buffett also invited the students to join him for lunch at his favorite steakhouse.

At Borsheims jewelry store the director of marketing talked about retail strategies for the store, which offers millions of dollars worth of fine jewelry and watches. Finally, students visited the La Vista Fulfillment Center of Oriental Trading Company, a major party and school supplier, to view the technology on display in the 750,000-square-foot building, which is large enough to cover 12 football fields.
