“This marks one whole year of serving students and helping fight food insecurity on USD’s campus,” Nathan Popp, Charlie's Cupboard president, said. “So much progress has been made in just the first year, and we are so excited to see what this coming year will bring.”

The recent expansion at Charlie's Cupboard's included an addition of a fridge and a freezer and an increase in storage and personal hygiene products.

“Personal hygiene items are hard to come by in food pantries, so an emphasis on those products helps us ensure that students are able to get more than just food,” said Popp.

Popp said they also aim to place a focus on mental health services this year and will work with Student Services to offer in-person mental health resources.

Last year, Charlie’s Cupboard served an average of 120 students per week. This year, Popp hopes the number will increase to 150, especially with the wider selection of products.

Charlie’s Cupboard is free and available to all USD students with a current student ID. Charlie's Cupboard is located in the University Continuing Education Building #114.

Its hours of operation will be determined each semester. Students can expect Charlie’s Cupboard to work in collaboration with other community resources to maximize access to these important services. Staffing will be coordinated through Charlie’s Cupboard staff and volunteer networks.
