The season opens on Friday, Sept. 28 with “Medea,” Euripides’ towering classic performed with the ancient convention of masks. “Medea,” which runs through Monday, Oct. 1, reveals the tragic side of jealousy and betrayal when Medea vows revenge after being wronged and discarded by her husband, Jason.

“Brigadoon,” Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s endearing musical, kicks off the holidays with performances scheduled Nov. 29 through Dec. 3. Set in a fantastical Scottish town, “Brigadoon” features high-spirited folk dancing, spectacular sets and costumes, and musical theatre standards like “I’ll Go Home with Bonnie Jean” and “Almost Like Being in Love.” “Brigadoon” is produced in collaboration with the USD Music Department and the USD Orchestra.

Second semester includes the farce, “Silent Laughter,” Feb. 20-24 and the award-winning musical “Rent,” April 17-21. Written by Billy van Zandt and Jane Milmore, “Silent Laughter” brings roaring 1920s silent movie mayhem to the stage as a dashing hero overcomes jail, poverty, World War I and a dastardly villain to win the girl of his dreams. “Rent,” with book, music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, follows a year in the life of a group of young artists struggling to make it in New York City. The pop-rock score and story about finding love and living for today resonates with audiences of all ages.

All performances are in the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Season tickets, a 25 percent savings over standard ticket prices, are $45 for adults, $36 for senior citizens (62+), $30 for youth (k-12) and non-USD students, and $15 for USD students with a valid ID.
