U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin is the keynote speaker at the Hooding Ceremony, which will start at 7:30 p.m. on the lawn between the Law School and the Al Neuharth Media Center in Vermillion. A reception for law school graduates will follow at 8:30 p.m. in the Davenport Evans Student Commons area.

The Sanford School of Medicine Graduation Convocation, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Friday, May 9, will be at the Reuben P. Jeschke Fine Arts Center on the campus of the University of Sioux Falls. Dr. C. Craig Tisher, associate vice president of the University of Florida Health Science Center and a graduate of The University of South Dakota, will deliver the keynote address. Following the convocation, the Sanford School of Medicine Alumni Foundation/Alumni Council is hosting a banquet at the Sheraton Hotel. School of Medicine classes from 1958 and 1983 will be honored at the banquet, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Recognized both nationally and internationally for his writings and research in renal anatomy, pathology and physiology, Tisher received his undergraduate degree from USD in 1958 and his M. D. from Washington University of St. Louis in 1961. He served for three years in the military at the Walter Reed General Hospital and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington, D. C. before joining the faculty at Duke University School of Medicine in 1969. In 1980, he accepted an appointment as professor of medicine and pathology and chief of the Division of Nephrology, Hypertension and Transplantation at the University of Florida. A professor of anatomy and cell biology and a member of the department’s doctoral research faculty, Tisher is past president of the American Society of Nephrology, past treasurer of the International Society of Nephrology, and past editor of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. He is the author of 124 peer-reviewed clinical and scientific articles, 87 chapters and has written and edited 9 books in the field of nephrology and pathology. In April 2002, Tisher was named interim dean of the college of medicine and five months later he was named dean of the college of medicine at the University of Florida. In May 2007, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society of Teaching Scholars at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Following completion of his tenure as dean in May 2007, he began serving as associate vice president for program development at the University of Florida.
