An open house will be held Aug. 30 to coincide with the first athletic event at the new basketball and volleyball arena. Doors open at 6 p.m. with $1 tickets and free T-shirts for community members. Everyone will be able to tour the new new 6,000-seat arena, training facility and laboratory, and then watch the Coyotes take on North Dakota in volleyball starting at 7 p.m.

Students had the chance to see the new addition to the DakotaDome at YoteFest. The annual USD faculty and staff picnic, hosted by President James W. Abbott, will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the arena. And several special events are planned for alumni in the SCSC during Dakota Days in October.

The $66 million project was made possible by The University of South Dakota Foundation’s Onward campaign, which has raised more than $214 million toward a seven-year $250 million goal. The campaign, launched in 2012, has four campaign pillars: scholarships; student and faculty enrichment through research, conferences and travel abroad; endowments for professors and department chairs; and facilities enhancements for athletics and health sciences, the National Music Museum, and the schools of law and fine arts.
