Coyote VEX IQ Challenge Hosted at USD Jan 27
The competition, which seeks to encourage an interest in robotics and engineering, will challenge about 100 elementary and middle school students to build a robot that can complete a variety of tasks in a timed setting. Students will be judged on their competition score, robotics engineering design, computer programming, a STEM research project, sportsmanship and teamwork. Winning teams have the opportunity to qualify for the state tournament and the CREATE U.S. Open.
The Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, which encourages student interest and involvement in science, is sponsoring the tournament. Additional sponsors are the University of South Dakota, the Vermillion Chamber & Development Company, Masaba, and the Vermillion Area Robotics Club (VARC).
Over the past four years VARC has grown to be one of the premier competitive robotics teams in the state and region, earning top honors in national and international competitions. With community support, VARC has provided STEM activities to over 100 area children each year.
