Dance Marathon at USD boogies to raise money for CMN
Dance Marathon at USD has partnered with area businesses to help raise awareness for its 2011 event, which is March 26-27 at USD, as well as raise funds for the region’s only Children’s Miracle Network hospital, Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Now in its 14th year, Dance Marathon at USD is the largest student-run philanthropy organization in the state of South Dakota. Dance Marathon has donated more than $300,000 to creating miracles at Sanford Children’s Hospital by raising year-long funds that culminate in a 24-hour event that celebrates children and families. In 2010, USD Dance Marathon raised $38,000.
Funds received through Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Sanford Children’s Hospital directly impacts the lives of children and their families by providing assistance in travel, lodging, food, direct support and medical expenses. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals care for 17 million sick and injured children nationwide.
“This is Dance Marathon’s and the City of Vermillion’s way of honoring Sanford Children’s Miracle Network, local sick and injured children and the miracles created daily,” said Dzenan Berberovic, a contemporary media and journalism major from Sioux Falls and chair of USD Dance Marathon. “In the same sense that Dance Marathon has touched thousands of lives, Sanford Children’s Hospital continues to do so 365 days a year.”
Local businesses participating in Miracle Month include Pump ‘n Pak, one cent of every gallon of gas as well as in-store promotions; Tan World, $2 packages during Valentine’s Day week; Hy-Vee, 50 cents of every student Chinese meal purchased from the Wednesday buffet; Carey’s, 25 percent of certain drinks every Wednesday; U.brew’s “Mochas for Miracles,” 50 cents of every Mocha sold every Thursday; and CiCi’s Pizza in Sioux Falls will host the “Battle of the Buffets” fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 26.
