Open to the public, this exhibit contains a mixture of Deis’ pottery and Coyle’s photography, both exploring a wide range of techniques, styles and artistic visions. A reception for both artists, who are completing their Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees at USD, is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16 at the Day Gallery.

Deis’ work has lately focused on wood-fired ceramics – a process that creates one-of-a-kind pieces with slightly different surface qualities. Of the hundreds of pots Deis has created this past year, an exclusive collection of his best work will be on display. His works have been honored with the Dean’s Choice Award at the annual juried Stilwell Art Exhibition and an honorable mention in the recent show, “All of Us.” Deis is originally from Sioux Falls, S.D. and plans to graduate in May.

Coyle’s photographs examine and explore the mystique of nightfall focusing on the boundlessness of the night sky, mysterious lighting and long exposures. Other selected works feature international street photography and palladium printing. A native of Yankton, S.D., Coyle is moving to Chicago following graduation this month. Her work has been featured in Leica Fotografie International, and she was also honored with the Stilwell Award and received an honorable mention at the annual Stilwell Art Exhibition.

Located in the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts on the Vermillion campus, the John A. Day Gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and from 1 to 5 p.m. on weekends.
