Dr. Loren and Mavis Amundson donated the sculpture, "Asclepius & Hygeiea," which was part of the Sioux Falls Sculpture Walk in 2008. At the unveiling, the Amundson’s recalled seeing the sculpture near a downtown restaurant and realizing it was a perfect fit for the medical building.

"We're proud to present this sculpture to the School of Medicine," Dr. Amundson said.

Ron Lindahl, Ph.D, executive dean of the medical school, thanked the Amundson's for the gift as well as their past support of the school and university. Dr. Amundson received an undergraduate degree from USD in 1954 and graduated from medical school in Wisconsin.

Dr. Amundson said during college he learned that modern medicine can trace its roots to medicine practiced in Ancient Greece and that’s why he and his wife felt the sculpture would be appropriate for the Lee Medical Building.
