Made possible through generous contributions of Cathy Palmer and Karen Chesterman, art department alumni at USD, the Faculty Exhibition Award provides a $1,000 stipend and a month-long exhibition in the John A. Day Gallery. Hook will display his project, “Outbound, Looking Back: A Self Portrait,” May 7 through June 7, 2013 in the Day Gallery. A formal announcement and recognition of the artist will be made at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, in the John A. Day Gallery.

According to Alison Erazmus, gallery director, the Faculty Exhibition Award encourages USD art faculty to produce a new body of creative work for exhibit using USD’s main exhibition space. “Rather than faculty exhibiting new work elsewhere, this is a great way to foster and promote the creative work that is happening right here in Vermillion,” she added.

Hook’s exhibition “Outbound, Looking Back - A Self Portrait” will venture into new territory as far as media and concept. He plans to construct an installation utilizing video projection that explores the connection between two small towns and one large city, all located on the Missouri River.
