Frank Zavadil to chair USD Department of Addiction Studies
Zavadil brings more than three decades of experience in addictions and behavioral health treatment issues through his clinical and leadership positions at the South Dakota Department of Human Services and Department of Social Services. A licensed counselor, Zavadil earned his M.A. in Educational, Psychology and Counseling and a B.A. in Alcohol and Drug Studies from the University of South Dakota. Additionally, he has served as an adjunct instructor and advisory board member with the USD Department of Addiction Studies. Zavadil replaces Dona Kennealley, who retired in 2013.
“Frank Zavadil brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the department,” said Michael Lawler, Ph.D., dean of the School of Health Sciences. “He has an extensive background in helping others whether it's in a clinical setting or instructing students to make a difference. We are thrilled to have him assume our leadership position for addiction studies.”
The Department of Addiction Studies at USD is a national leader in offering addiction, co-occurring and prevention education that emphasizes state-of-the art evidence-based approaches to addiction, providing students the skills and knowledge they need to meet the changing needs of the clients and the communities they live in.
