According to Angeline Lavin, Ph.D., CFA, director of The U’s MBA and MPA programs, students in the MBA program have been taking the ETS Major Field Test for Master of Business Administration since fall 2007. Not only does the test help USD measure its graduate programs nationally, she says, it also enables potential graduates to demonstrate knowledge of core concepts in business disciplines as well as strategic integration.

"The test is an assessment of how well we are teaching basic skills across the specialty areas of managerial accounting, finance, management and marketing that our graduate students need to know in order for them to make business decisions in a dynamic environment. The exam also helps us to assess our students' knowledge of strategic integration of those skills throughout the enterprise," Lavin says. "A nationally-administered exam shows us how Beacom MBA graduates compare to students who graduate from other business schools across the country. We are extremely proud of our students who achieved such outstanding performance."

Since 2007, 99 USD MBA students have taken the exam, including 25 students this past summer whose average of 265 points put them in the 95th percentile nationally. USD MBA students have not scored lower than the 80th percentile when compared to national averages since they began taking the exam in fall 2007. More than 130 colleges and universities in the United States administer this exam to their graduate business students.
