The Dr. Robert Raszkowski Continuing Medical Education Endowment of more than $4 million was established to honor the long and progressive relationship between the Sanford School of Medicine of The University of South Dakota, the Sanford School of Medicine of The University of South Dakota Office of Continuing Medical Education, and the USD Foundation. The endowment was created by the CME Foundation’s transfer of funds to the USD Foundation.

"Without question, the role of Continuing Medical Education is vital to any medical school and, by extension, to all physicians and health care practitioners throughout the state of South Dakota," said Bill Kubat, vice president of Resident, Community and Quality Services, Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society and past president of the USD Continuing Medical Education Foundation. "The endowment was named for Dr. Raszkowski because of his passion and leadership in growing the CME office and function at the Sanford School of Medicine."

Dr. Robert "Bob" Raszkowski, M.D., Ph.D., was dean of Continuing Medical Education, professor of internal medicine, and program director for the transitional year residency at the Sanford School of Medicine. During his 28 years of service, Raszkowski also served as dean of academic affairs and practiced medicine as a gastroenterologist. An alumnus of USD, he received a master’s degree in physiology and biochemistry in 1966 and graduated from the School of Medicine with a Bachelor of Science degree in medicine and a Ph.D. in physiology and pharmacology. He died in 2005 at the age of 64.

"The students will benefit as the endowment will provide dollars to offer educational opportunities for the faculty of the School of Medicine to enhance their knowledge of medicine, thus becoming more effective teachers," added Dr. Rodney R. Parry, M.D., dean of the Sanford School of Medicine. "There will also be programming for faculty development, including teaching skills and student assessment."
