Health Sciences professor to deliver Health Care Reform Law lecture
His lecture, entitled “The Impact of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Law on Rural and Underserved Populations: The Present, the Future and that TBD” will address the potential effects of the legislation, which was passed in 2010 and takes full effect in 2014. Cross was the first physical therapist in the nation to complete a fellowship through the National Rural Health Association, and during that time, he completed an extensive study on the effects of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Law on minorities and other underserved populations, such as those in rural areas.
Cross’s fellowship experience provides the foundation for his lecture, which he said will help his audience understand the practical implications of the legislation.
“The presentation will allow health care professionals, students and other community members to gain a deeper understanding about how the bill will affect them and those they serve, while highlighting some of the questions that must still be answered in terms of policy implementation in the coming years,” said Cross.
Cross’s lecture is sponsored by the University of South Dakota School of Health Sciences.
