"Jo is a wonderful and caring classroom teacher, legal scholar, and a devoted member of the community and the legal profession," said Barry Vickrey, dean of the School of Law. "Her nomination by students is significant and confirms that she is a deserving recipient of this prestigious award."

Pasqualucci joined the USD Law faculty in 1996 where she currently teaches international human rights law, international business transactions, commercial law, and secured transactions. She is also the faculty adviser to the South Dakota Law Review. Her research and writing focuses on the areas of international human rights law and U.S. commercial law.

Previously an associate professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law and a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin and George Washington University, Pasqualucci also practiced law as a commercial litigator with Foley & Lardner and clerked for the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in San Jose, Costa Rica. During past summers she has directed and taught in overseas law programs in Geneva, Switzerland, The Hague, Netherlands, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Freiberg, Germany.

Pasqualucci, who received her J.D. from the University of Wisconsin and her S.J.D. degree in international and comparative law from George Washington University Law School, will receive a plaque and a cash award, and her name will be inscribed on a plaque retained permanently in the Law School.

Established in 1981 through a gift by Horace and Dorothy Jackson of Rapid City, S.D., the Jackson Award recipient is chosen from nominations by students and faculty at the School of Law. Selection is based on criteria demonstrating excellence in the teaching of law, including effectiveness in the classroom; efforts to improve legal education in ways that serve the needs of the profession and of South Dakota; research and writing; contributions to the profession through public service; and contributions to the academic environment of the Law School. Pasqualucci was selected by a committee consisting of School of Law Dean Barry Vickrey, Aaron Roseland, president of the Student Bar Association, and Professor Roger Baron, last year’s recipient.
