Wasley grew up in a military family – his father was in the U.S. Air Force – and lived in a variety of countries and states, including Germany, Japan, California, Florida, Texas and Wisconsin.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Wasley enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 21 years.

In 1998, Wasley moved to Vermillion and joined USD as a human resources (HR) generalist.

He eventually became the assistant director of HR and then assistant vice president of HR.

Wasley was elected to serve on the Governor's Personnel Advisory Board under former South Dakota governors Bill Janklow and Mike Rounds.

We asked the assistant vice president of HR about his time at USD and his plans for retirement. Here’s what Wasley had to say.

What is your favorite part about working at USD?

Working with the HR team and witnessing them get the recognition from the other institutions as setting the standards for other campuses to follow.

Over the years, what have been some exciting developments at USD?

There have been two major changes in HR. First, the transition to Banner for our IT platform. Then the HR transition to the South Dakota Board of Regents.

What are your plans for retirement?

I’m planning to relax, visit my kids and work in the garden.
