Oscar Howe Lecture at USD Features American Indian Artists of 20th Century
Rosenthal, Ph.D., focuses particularly on the ways that native people have shaped modern American culture and society. In 2012, the University of North Carolina Press published his first book, "Reimagining Indian Country: Native American Migration and Identity in Twentieth-Century Los Angeles," as part of its series, “First Nations: New Directions in Indigenous Studies.” For the 2014-15 academic year, Rosenthal was a visiting associate researcher in American Indian Studies for the Institute of American Cultures at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he taught and conducted research on this new project.
University Art Galleries at USD sponsors the free lecture that's held in room 156 of the Warren M. Lee Center for the Fine Arts. Immediately following Rosenthal’s talk, there will be a reception in the building's John A. Day Gallery.
The Oscar Howe Memorial Lecture is the opening event to the 28th Annual Northern Plains Indian Art Market weekend.
