Part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Center for Scientific Review is the portal for NIH grant applications and their review for scientific merit. Wang, M.D., Ph.D., will serve a four-year term on the board beginning July 1. Membership on a study section represents a unique opportunity for participants to contribute to national biomedical research.

Members are selected on the basis of their demonstrated competence and achievement in their scientific discipline as evidenced by the quality of research accomplishments, publications in scientific journals, and other significant scientific activities, achievements and honors. Study sections review grant applications submitted to the NIH, make recommendations on these applications to the appropriate NIH national advisory council or board, and survey the status of research in their fields of science.

Wang, a member of the USD faculty since 2001, has received several honors and awards through his teaching and research while at The U, including the President's Award for Research Excellence in 2008 and several awards from the American Heart Association. He has also been published in more than 60 publications while also contributing to significant research to USD in the field of molecular cardiovascular biology.
