Proton coupled electron transfer in energy conversion topic of 2014 Haines Lecture at USD
Hammes-Schiffer, who received her B.A. in Chemistry from Princeton University and her Ph.D. in Chemistry at Stanford University, was a postdoctoral research scientist at AT&T Bell Laboratories with Dr. John C. Tully. She has served on the faculties of the University of Notre Dame and Pennsylvania State University and her research centers on the investigation of charge transfer reactions and quantum mechanical effects in chemical and biological processes. Hammes-Schiffer is known particularly for her theories of hydrogen tunneling and proton-coupled electron transfer as well as her studies of electrochemical, photochemical and enzymatic processes. The Haines Lecture is sponsored by the USD Chemistry Department and was established in 1956 in honor of Arthur Lee Haines, a member of the USD Chemistry Department for 71 years.
